Nyo Jinyong Lian

Explores photography as a spatial medium.

Nyo Jinyong Lian is a Paris-based transnational visual artist working across staged photography and moving image. She stages intimacy as a form of social choreography shaped by vulnerability and power. Through carefully constructed encounters among women, she treats trust as an infrastructure — something built, negotiated, and maintained rather than given. Her images function as speculative propositions for forms of collective life that do not yet exist.

Drawing on diasporic experience and feminist genealogies, Lian constructs semi-fictional worlds in which the body becomes a site where dependence, agency, and mutual exposure are continuously negotiated. Situated between performance, tableau, and cinematic image-making, her practice treats fiction as a mode of social architecture, exposing the invisible forces that organize everyday life while proposing alternative ways of living together.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including during Les Rencontres d’Arles (2025) at Fisheye Gallery, InCadaqués Photo Festival, the Sigg Art Foundation in Riyadh, Tianfu Image Art Center (2025), and PhotoSaintGermain (2024) in Paris.

In 2025 she received the Grand Prize at the 212 Photography Festival and the Jeunes Talents Prize (Les Agents Associés). Her artist book Trust Me (2025) was shortlisted for the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson Self-Published Photobook Award and featured by PhMuseum and Booooooom.

Lian lives and works in Paris.
