Jinyong Lian (b. 1994 Shenzhen, China) is an artist and independent editor. Lian’s work explores psychological instability between individuals and within the self, using metaphorical scenes and gestures to reflect on societal pressures. Drawing from her personal experiences as an Asian woman and sexual minority, Lian examines the alienation and rigid gender norms that shape contemporary life, often using humor and symbolism to critique these dynamics. Each photograph functions as an independent fable in itself, inviting viewers to engage with the subtle discomfort of everyday existence and questioning the relationship between the individual, subjectivity, and societal structures.
Lian has exhibited internationally at Photo Saint-Germain in Paris, Gallery Paris Horizon, and Shenyang 1905 in China. She is a recipient of the LensCulture 2025 Editor's Pick. Lian earned her Diploma in Photography from Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2024, and now lives and works in Paris.
